General Information

As a health professional trained in theoretical and clinical aspects of ophthalmology, ophthalmic technicians may practice in government agencies, private institutions, or private offices. They work under the supervision of an ophthalmologist and perform tasks such as patient examination, diagnostic testing, patient treatment, and assisting the ophthalmologist during surgical procedures.

The first year of prerequisite work includes general studies and introductory sciences courses to be completed at an accredited college or university.
