General Information
The Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy Program prepares physical therapists committed to promoting optimal health and function through the use of scientific principles. The physical therapists seeks to prevent, identify, assess, correct, and alleviate acute or chronic movement dysfunction. In this way, therapy maximizes physical potential for the advancement of human performance. Qualified physical therapists may provide physical therapy services in all areas of health care, that is, health promotion, disease prevention, acute care, and rehabilitation. In accordance with this view of the profession, the program prepares physical therapists capable of functioning as primary providers of health care, as well as participating on a referral or consulting basis.
The education program in Physical Therapy comprises four years of study, two of which are spent at an accredited institutions taking general education and other basic college courses with emphasis on the behavioral and natural sciences. Two additional years are dedicated to professional education at the Medical Sciences Campus. Upon completion of the degree, the graduate is qualified to work as a general practitioner in physical therapy.
