Health Center U.S. National Center of
Excellence in Women’s Health
The Women’s Health Center was established in March 1996
in an effort to contribute to the well-being of women in Puerto
Rico by addressing, coordinating, and incorporating issues
relevant to women and their health in existing health services.
The Women’s Health Center was designated a National
Center of Excellence in Women’s Health in 1998 and the
designation was renewed in 2002 in recognition of its commitment
to
women’s health. The main goal of its interdisciplinary
approach to promote the health and well-being of women in
Puerto Rico through the study of the feminine gender in
the sciences and in the health professions. To accomplish
its goal and mission, the Center pursues the following objectives:
• Integrate faculties and programs of the MSC committed
with the well-being of women
throughout their life cycle.
• Offer information, orientation, and educational. services
to the academic community and to the Puerto Rican community
in general.
• Promote research studies of multi and interdisciplinary
nature and the development of
integrated services sensitive to women’s needs.
• Promote the inclusion of issues relevant to women
in the training of health professionals.
• Stimulate the development of female leaders in the
health sciences.
• Foster collaboration with similar organizations within
and outside Puerto Rico.
