General
Information
As a health professional trained in theoretical and clinical aspects
of ophthalmology, ophthalmic technicians may practice in government
agencies, private institutions, or private offices. They work under
the supervision of an ophthalmologist and perform tasks such as
patient examination, diagnostic testing, patient treatment, and
assisting the ophthalmologist during surgical procedures.
The first year of prerequisite work includes general studies and
introductory sciences courses to be completed at an accredited college
or university. The second year of studies, offered at the Medical
Sciences Campus, prepares the student for the specific professional
responsibilities of an ophthalmic technician.
Admission Requirements
Applicants for admission to the professional program must comply
with the following requirements:
· Completion of 33 credits of required courses at an accredited
institution in the areas stated below. For specific courses within
each subject, please contact the program.

sciences and mathematics.
