Blackboard Faculty Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Why are there no students in my course roster?

Blackboard rosters are not populated with students until the administrators receive the student list with their corresponding email addresses from the Instructor. Submit the information to the administrator to enroll the students in your course.

Why are students who have dropped my course still in the Blackboard roster?

Your Blackboard roster is updated everyday with students who add the course, but students who drop are not automatically deleted from the course, to avoid accidental loss of data. The instructor may remove a student manually from the roster using the Remove Users from the Control Panel. When you remove the student from the course, the student's grade and files sent by the student are also removed.

How can I update a student's email address?

You cannot update a student's email address. (This is a privacy feature of Bb that keeps everyone's account information secure.) Online student’s can update their own email address.

How can I copy the quiz I created?

Use the Pool Manager button on the Control Panel to build a pool of re-usable quiz items. Then recreate the quiz using those questions. Detailed instructions are available in the Assessments & Tests section of the Tools and Strategies Course in Blackboard.

How can I make a quiz available to student?

You can make the quiz available by adding it to any section under Content Areas of the Control Panel. Please refer to the instructions in the Assessments & Tests section of the Tools and Strategies Course in Blackboard.

Why can't my students see their grades?

There are two possibilities why your students cannot see their grades. Make sure the grade is visible in the grade book by clicking the heading of the column in the grade book (the item name) and then on Item Information.

If the grade is visible, check to make sure the Tools button is displayed among the students' navigation buttons of the course. For further assistance, contact administrator or call 787-758-2525 Ext.4324.

How can I include a guest (non-RCM Faculty) in my course?

Please contact administrators or call 787-758-2525 Ext.4324 for assistance. Individuals not affiliated with Medical Sciences Campus need a special account to log in to Blackboard. This is the information that we'll need:

1) Full name of the individual;
2) Accessible email address (this is where we'll send their Blackboard account information);
3) Bb account duration (usually less than one year);
4) Which course the individual should be added to.
